• Greater Manchester's Walking Trail (ring trail): A ring 322km ring trail in 20 stages, starting and ending in the city centre.

  The trail is available on the GoJountly walking app and can also be downloaded from PlotARoute.

  Start- and end point of each stage can be reached by public transportation so these are very interesting walks.

Manchester city walks

End point: Prestwich tram station (Yellow line)

• Walk through the city centre (7.7km)

• Loop walk from Premier Inn Piccadilly to Salford Quays (13.7km)

• Line walk from Premier Inn Piccadilly to Prestwick Station via Salford Quaus and Kersal Wetlands

Peak District - Hope Valley

Starting point: Hope (Derbyshire) Station with trains to/from Manchester Piccadilly (but only one per hour, leaving Manchester at Xh48 usually).

• Loop Win Hill and Hope (8.55km). The tour passes through Hope at the end, but this is just a tiny village.

• Loop Win Hill and Ladybower Reservoir (18km) This tour also passes through Hope at the end of the tour.

Peak District - Marsden station

Starting point: Marsden (Yorks) station with trains to/from Manchester Piccadilly (but often only one per hour leaving Manchester at Xh57 usually and Marsden around Xh05)

• Loop over West Nab Trig Point (17.7km), South-East of Marsden.

• Loop Cupwith Reservoir (9km), North of Marsden

• 8-shaped loop Cupwith Reservoir, Deer Heel Conduit and Butterley reservoir (15.4km), Passing again through Marsden halfway the walk so that one may eat something in Marsden.

Lyme Park

Lyme Park is national trust property. This may be expensive. It looks like even to walk in the parks a ticket is needed. The Park and Garden ticket is already GBP 9.00.

Starting point: Disley station with trains to/from Manchester Piccadilly.

• Loop Lyme Park (13.7km)

• Loop Sponds Hill and Lyme Park (17.2km)

• Loop Macclesfield Canal and Lyme Park (13km)

Sale water parks area

Starting point: East Didsbury Station with trains to/from Manchester Piccadilly.

End point: Brooklands tram stop (In the summer of 2026 possibly served by a replacement bus instead)

• Circular walk from East Didsbury Station: Chorlton lake and Water Park (16.4km)

• Line walk from East Didsbury Station to Brooklands over Chorlton and Sale Water Parks (13.9km)

Stage 2 and stage 19 of the Greater Manchester's Walking trail also pass through this area

Irlam station

Starting point: Irlam station with trans to/from Manchester Piccadilly (likely stopping on a remote side platform)

• Loop from Irlam Station: New Moss Wood and Little Woolden Moss (12.4km)

• Loop from Irlam station: Longer version New Moss Wood and Little Woolden Moss (14.2km)

Stage 17 of the Greater Manchester's Walking Trail covers partly the same area.

Irwell Vale Station (North of Manchester)

Starting point: Irwell Yale Station , can only be reached by bus though, basically the X41 from the bus station, which makes it a long trip.

• Loop walk along Waugh's Well and Hailstorm Hill (17.9km)

Walks from Prestwich Station thourgh Clifton Country Park

Starting point: Prestwich tram station (Yellow line)

Endpoint 1: Radcliffe tram station (Yellow line)

Endpoint 2: Bury Bolton Street tram station (Yellow line)

• Prestwitch Station to Radcliffe Station through Clifton Country Park (13.1km)

• Prestwitch Station to Radcliffe Station via Clifton Country Park and Prestolee (17km)

• Prestwich Station to Bury Bolton Street Station via Clifton Country Park and Elton Reservoir (17.9km)

  If that walk is too hard, you can still divert to Radcliffe on the way.

Walks from Prestwich along Heaton Park and River Irk

Starting point: Prestwich tram station (Yellow line)

End point 1: Moston Train Station with trains to Manchester Victoria (but at a low frequency)

• Prestwich Station to Moston via Heaton Park, River Irk and Boggart Hole Clough (15.5km)

• Prestwich Station to Premier Inn Piccadilly via Heaton Park, River Irk and Boggart Hole Clough (20km)

4. Bramhall station SK7 2DU Train Northern Railway with trains from Manchester Piccadilly.

5. Middlewood station SK12 1UA Services can be infrequent here, especially on Sundays.

6. Strines station SK22 3AL with trains to/from Manchester Piccadilly.

7. Marple station SK6 7DA with trains to/from Manchester Piccadilly.

8. Broadbottom station SK14 6AX

9. Greenfield station OL3 7JZ

10. Newhey tram stop OL16 3RN

11. Littleborough station OL15 8AR

12. Hutchinson Road Bus Stop but another bus stop 1km or so away may be a better choice, especially on Sundays.
