Amsterdam

Information

Public transportation

  • The public transportation is run by GVB.

    • Whatever type of ticket you have, you always need to check in and check out.

    • It is now perfectly possible to do so with your bank card, but of course you should use the same to check in and check out.

    • And if you do so, you can use their app Gappie to follow up your use. The app also provides routing, and you can by regular single or multi-day tickets in it that will then work with a QR code.

    • App for iOS and app for Android

    • Multi-day tickets are interesting if you take public transportation a lot, but opening the app and scanning the QR code is a slow process compared to tapping a credit card on the reader.

Daytime activities

Note that Amsterdam offers the "I amsterdam City Card" which includes free public transportation, a canal cruise, bicycle rent and access to more than 70 museums. It doesn't come cheap though, especially for a short time. It really becomes interesting for a 4 or 5 full day visit. There is also an app that goes with it.

  • Museumplein with:

  • Begijnhof

  • Westergas area: Formerly the city's municipal gasworks, now a cultural hub.

  • At the North side of the river:

    • NDSM: Event location on a former shipyard. Also has the "IJ hallen" flea market.

    • Area around A'DAM Lookout which itself is a nice but expensive viewpoint.

  • De Hallen in the west of the city is a nice are for culture and food.

  • For walking, there is "Het Amsterdamse Bos" in the south of the city, close to the airport. It is also close to De Oeverlanden which has a zone where cruising is officially tolerated (and used for naked sunbathing during the day).

FKK in Amsterdam

  • Nudist beach Gaasperplas in the East of Amsterdam (East from the Bijlmer)

  • "Zonneweide" in Amsterdams Bos: Nudism allowed from May 1 till September 30.

  • The crusing zone of De Oeverlanden (mentioned elsewhere on the page) is also suited for FKK recreation during the day.

Cruisy

Cruising zones:

  • Oeverlanden park has a dedicated zone where cruising is officially tollerated. Look for the rainbow markings. Seems to be east from the "Giant Pink Glasses", halfway to the zone with the "De Waterkant" centre and north of the "Anton Schleperspad".

It is mostly forest overgrown with nettles and blackbery bushes. At the easternmost part there is a rather open area, shielded from the hiking trail/bicycle path by bushes.

A picture I found actually indicates it is the whole area north of the Anton Schleperspad. But this turned out to be an old picture. The east part of the zone indicated in that picture is no longer part of the cruising area.
