Walking in and near Warsaw.¶
Some sources:¶
Nice areas to look for¶
-
Kampinoski Park: Large forest northwest of Warsaw, with lots of trails and variety. Also with a museum remembering those executed in WWII by the Nazis.
-
Lasy Drewnickie: North of the city and a bit more tricky to get there. Can be very muddy, basically a bog.
-
Mokry Lug: Northeast of the city, again with lots of variety. Also some bunkers, remnants from the German occupation. No marked trails and also military training ground so not always accessible. Again with a memorial church, here for a plain crash
-
Zegrze Lake: North of the city.
-
Kabaty Forest: At the end of the metro line in the south so very easy to reach. Not the most interesting area as there is not that much variation, but OK for one day.
-
Town of Sulejowek: East of Warsaw. Could be part of a one-way hike from Praga
-
Chojnowski Forest: South of Warsaw.
Apps¶
-
Komoot is not that spectacular around Warsaw.
-
Wikiloc has a bit more, but much rubbish also.
-
AllTrails might be a better option.
-
RouteYou doesn't have that much either.
Kampinoski preparation¶
-
AllTrails Wólka Węglowa - Góra Ojca - Uroczysko Łuże: 9km, according to the comments rather busy. The route starts at a big cemetary (Cmentarz Komunalny Północny) and therefore can be reached easily by public transportation with a combination of tram or metro and bus.
-
AllTrails Wokół Opalenia nature trail: 4.2 km, starts not too far from the cemetary so could be integrated with the previous walk. The route can again be reached easily by public transportation with a combination of tram or metro and bus, and a short wak from the bus stop on the main road.
-
AllTrails Sub-Warsaw Memorial Trail: 11.1km, A-to-B. One end point is again the cemetary of the first route,
-
AllTrails Extendeded loop from Truskaw: 15km. Can get close to the start point using a combination of tram or metro and bus.
- Google Maps start point, some 20km from the central station of Warsaw.
-
AllTrails Do Karczmiska nature trail (Truskaw): 5,8km, but not sure if this is measured one way or not. Same start point as the other walk above from Truskaw.
- Google Maps start point, some 20km from the central station of Warsaw.
-
AllTrails loop Dziekanów Leśny - Palmiry: 18km. The start point is a bus stop at a hospital hence easy to reach with public transportation with a combination of metro or tram and bus.
-
AllTrails Do Starego Dębu nature trail: 7km (likely measured both ways), starting from the same bus stop near the hospital as above.
-
AllTrails Dąbrowa - Palmiry: 20km, but that is likely measured both ways, return along the same paths. It is possible to get close to the start point with a combination of metro or tram and bus, and it may be possible to combine the route in one way or another with the loop above.
-
AllTrals Kampinos Forest main trail: 56km and too much for one day as it would take 12 hours or more of walking alone. Starts at a bus stop near a hospital already mentioned a few times. Ends in Brochow at the Bazylika św Jana Chrzciciela i św Rocha w Brochowie. Google Maps cannot determin a proper route to get to the end point.
Sulejowek area preparation¶
-
AllTrails Mapa – 20 kwietnia 2023: 49 km, but can be used as a way to go through the forest and then return by public transportation or so.
Las Kabacki - Kabacki Woods¶
Easy to reach from the end of the metr line, Kabaty station.
-
AllTrails checked route Kabaty Woods Loop: 15km, but need to use a different access route if we want to start from the mtr sin.
- Google Maps start point: Parking in Powsin
-
AllTrails Community - Kabacki przed obiadem: 10,12 km, but more as information about accessible paths.
-
AllTrails Community - Afternoon hike: with a route to the forest.
