What to do during the day

Inside

• Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park, and Pollok House. Free entry. Reachable by train from Glasgow Central to Pollokshaws West. Easy to combine with a 7km or so walk through the park.

• Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum 3.5km walk from the hotel, or bus. Metro is also an option with a bit more walking.

  The gallery has a pipe organ also.

• University of Glasgow has nice buildings. Founded in 1451. Can be combined with Kelvingrove.

• Bothwell castle along the river Clyde upstream from Glasgow and on the Clyde Walkway. Alonmg the river it would be a 20km walk from the hotel only to get to the castle and another 2km to get to a train station to return to the hotel.

Walks in the Glasgow area

• Line walk (18.1km) from the Social Hub hotel to Milngavie

  Not recommended anymore. There is a part along the river Kelvin that is completely overgrown. Tried in 2026.

• From Kings Park station: Glasgow Magnificent 11 loop (17.6km) strongly based on a loop walk with that name found on Komoot, and the longer variant (23.2km).

• From Glasgow to Blantyre via Bothwell Castle (22.0km)

• Own version of a murals trail (13.2km)

Trips from Glasgow

Some ideas

• Stirling with Stirling Castle

  Short loop (18.4km) walk from the station on komoot and longer loop (20.1km) over the summit of Dumyat walk from the station on komoot.

  The short loop is not recommended anymore. The path up the hill is overgrown and very steep. Saw it in 2026 and returned to do via another way. On the top of the hill Dumyat I did see someone come up from the other side, so the longer loop above may be feasible.

• Edinburgh

• Fallkirk with [the Kelpies]https://www.thehelix.co.uk/) and the Fallkirk wheel, a rotating boat lift connecting the Forth & Clyde Canal to the Union Canal.

  • Walks to/from Falkirk High station (easier to reach from Glasgow)

    • Circle walk (20,3km) on Komoot visiting both the Kelpies and the wheel and passing through the village

      A bit disappointing in 2026 as part of the thowpath along the Forth & Clyde canal was closed for work on the locks.

    • Altermative circle walk, heavily inspired on the Heart of Falkirt trail (18.1km)

    • Line walk (22.7km) from Cumbernauld to Fallkirk High passing by the boat lift and the village

    • Line walk (20.8km) from Cumbernault to Fallkirk High passing by the boat lift and ending along the Union Canal

    In 2026, part of the route along the Forth & Clyde Canal was closed. I did find a reference to the "Heart of Faklkirk Trail" which looks slightly longer than the circle walk, but is probably nicer.

  • Walks to/from Falkirk Grahamston station (not so interesting)

    • my circle walk (20,5km) on komoot visiting both the wheel and the kelpies

    • line walk (20,8km) from Cumbernauld to Fallkirk passing by the boat lift

• Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park

  • Short circular walk (12.5km) above the East side of the lake

  • Line walk (18.3km) from Helensburg to Balloch as prepared in 2026.

    Slightly improved version based on the experiences from 2026 (18.3km)

  • From Milngavie to Balloch mostly over the John Muir Way (30.5km)

• Larnak and New Larnak

• Largs, a town at the seeshore easy to reach from Glasgow (but the link is for the whole area: Ayrshire and the island Arran)

  Not as far as Largs but in the same coastal area:

  • Line walk (17km) from Wemyss Bay to Greenock Dumfrocher on Komoot or variant (19km) to Greenock Central station.

  • Circular walk (18.3km) from Gourock along the coast and over the hills

• Isle of Arran, though a bit far already as it is 45 minutes of train and 55 minutes of ferry.

• Also a bit far already: Dumfries and Galloway
