Tallinn¶
General informaiton¶
- Tallinn tourism information
- The Tallinn Card (City Card) is an easy way to use public transportation and visit the city.
Public transportation¶
-
Public trasport on Visit Tallinn
-
No need to show anything to the driver, but validate at the orange validator when entering the vehicle (no need when leaving).
-
For a one-hour ticket, you can just tap the bank card at the validator.
-
Ticket prices in 2025: €2 for 1 hour, €5.50 for 24 hour, €9 for 72 hour, €11 for 120h. When always using the same bank card for 1 hour tickets, there is a single day cap.
The period starts at the first validation of the ticket.
-
You can put tickets on a green public transportation card "Ühiscard" with the pilet.ee website and app. This is a very quick way to by tickets.
The "Ühiscard" can be ordered in advance, or bought at the airport, likely at the R-Kiosk.

Going out¶
Gay scene¶
- X-Baar: Kommandandi tee 2, Tallinn, open daily from 4 pm. Moved since I was there in 2017. (Facebook profile) (Google Maps)
- HELLo! Baar: Vaike Karja 1, close to Town Hall square. (Google Maps)
- Club 69 is the only gay sauna in Estonia. Not all days are gay anymore!
(Google Maps)
- Experienced, very small and dirty. Definitely not recommended
- CLOSED: maleSecrets: a sex/cruising bar in an apartment building in the gay neighbourhood. (FaceBook profile) (Google Maps)
- Experienced. The place was rather empty on a weekday evening. On Saturday night there as a fetish party that week, a bit more people but not much action.
Hiking¶
-
Pääsküla Raba Matkarada Bog educational trail is just outside the city and can be reached by public transportation. (Google Maps)
-
Paljassaare: Has some gravel trails. There is an observation tower and an unofficial nude beach, but I found multiple locations: near Pikakari (according to NudePlaces.de) or in the reserve (don't know anymore where I got that location). It can also be combined with a walk along Pikakari beach.
-
Nice hike on WikiLoc: Paljassaare Peninsula Hike (13,6km), nearby tram stops are Sitsi and Maleva, nearby bus stops are Ajutine peatus and Lahesuu. Note that the tram also passes close to Viru Square
-
There is a bus stop near Pikakari beach, on Google Maps as Pikakari, that can be used as a starting point for a shorter walk in just the nature reserve.
-
-
Pirita River Valley Nature Reserve, between the TV tower and the beach.
-
Done in 2017.
-
Pirita Health Track is a 7.2km circuit on both banks of the Pirita river that is also illuminated. Starts at the Velodrome.
-
-
Difficult to reach without a car: Lahemaa National Park has lots of hiking opportunities
Inspiration for city hikes¶
Craft beer¶
Tallinn has several small breweries with taproom
-
Humalakoda taproom, offers food also. (taproom menu Untappd) (Google Maps)
-
Kochi Aidad: Restaurant and brewery bar (Google Maps)
-
Pöhjala taproom and brewery, also offers food. (taproom menu Untappd) (Google Maps)
Põhja Konn: A second taproom from Põhjala. This one is in the Telliskivi district and offers only drinks, no food (menu Untappd) (Google Maps)
-
Pühaste Taproom Tallinn: In a new area just west from the old town and close to the ferry terminal. They tend to have an interesting selection on tap, but also many special bottles. Pühaste is a brewery located in Tartu, two hours from Tallinn. (menu Untappd) (Google Maps)
-
Purtse Resto behind the railway station: Opened in October 2025 and replaces the former taproom. (Google Maps)
-
Sori, close to the airport. Closed when I was there in 2025? (Google Maps)
-
Tuletorn Brewing: Far from the centre, need the tram (Google Maps)
-
Vaat. Drinks only. (Menu Untappd) (Google Maps)
And yes, there is a Mikkeller also...
Good bars:
-
Drink Bar & Grill but few Estonian beers on tap. (menu Untappd) (Google Maps)
-
Koht in the old town (menu Untappd) (Google Maps)
Away from Tallinn:
Good restaurants (suggested by locals):
-
Hell Hunt is a restaurant and bar just a few 100 meters from Town Hall Square, with a selection of Estonian and foreign beers. They do seem to have good connections with Humalakoda mentioned above. (Google Maps)
-
Restaurant Argentiina: A bit outside the old town, towards the airport. Mostly for meat lovers, but they do have some fish dishes and dishes for vegetarians, so you can take your non-meatloving friends to the restaurant also. (Google Maps
