那些花看起来很漂亮 Would this sentence work without 起来?What purpose does it serve?

The only thing I can see on Pleco that might be relevant is this:

[used after a verb to indicate an impression]

It could work without 看起来, yes. Of course it seems redundant as beauty is based on the way things look, but this is just a way of saying this you can use. Also, this can be used in the context of a turn of events. So for example, perhaps it's a beautiful but deadly plant. You could say 那些花看起来很漂亮, 但它们是有毒的/能杀人的
