长相是很重要。

Is it also correct to say: 长相很重要。I'm thinking 是 is for emphasis here, but then I'd expect the sentence to be: 长相是很重要的。

In this sentence: 他这种长相, is 种 a measure word for looks because it's a type of thing?

REPLY

Mandarin Blueprint

种 is a measure word for *all* "types." Anything that could be broken into categories potentially could have 种 as the measure word, but only if you're specifically referring to something's category and not the thing itself.

Hi Luke & Phil. in the sentence, 他的长相和他妈妈一样, would it be incorrect to write / say it as: 他的长相和他的妈妈一样 instead?

Thanks!
Philip

REPLY

Mandarin Blueprint

Both are fine, although with relatives/friends the 的 is usually dropped in speech.
