Hi guys, can you clarify what the use of 没 is in the sentence 工作完成没?

Mandarin Blueprint

In this context, 没 can serve the same function as "吗”

Hi there,
May i ask what the function of the 也
is in the sentence: 你写完了的话,也可以过来和我一起玩儿。?
Cheers.

Mandarin Blueprint

It means "also" too, but it is part of a larger context. Once you see that larger context in phases 4+5 it will become clearer!

Mandarin Blueprint

This is a bit abstract, but theoretically, the speaker is saying "[amongst your many options for what you do] after you finish writing, you ALSO can come and hang out with me." 也, therefore, makes the tone somewhat less demanding.

Hey guys, can I ask a clarification on this sentence:

你不是早就写完了吗?

Which is translated here as:

"Haven't you finished writing already?"

I'm trying to understand the purpose of 早 here. My first pass at translation was something more like, "Didn't you just finish writing earlier?", thinking the 早 was a shortening 早点. Is it more like 早就 is a phrase by itself meaning "already"? How would the meaning change without the 早?

Thanks!

REPLY

Mandarin Blueprint

it wouldn't work without 早. 早就 means already, which is required for the meaning trying to be conveyed here. 早就 is like a stronger, more exaggerated version of 已经.

Makes sense, thanks y'all.

I love it when I have a question and find it has already been asked and answered. It's not only convenient, it's also comforting to know I'm not the only one with the question. Thanks for asking!
