What is the meaning or purpose of 地 in the first three sentences?

Mandarin Blueprint

You place '地 de' between an adjective and a verb to express how the verb happened. He "finished his work 完成工作". How did he finish his work? Conscientiously 认真. '地 de' effectively turns an adjective into an adverb.

你一定要认真工作。This appears to be the adjective + verb combination. But I'm thinking it's not because there's no 地. Is 工作 actually a noun here?

Interesting observation, the sentence feels totally fine, which makes me think that it's because "认真工作“ is so common that it's really just a contraction of "认真地工作". This happens a fair bit in Chinese. When you have a phrase that is super common, it will often get shortened since people are so used to hearing it.
