Two questions around 见一次面 please and thank you!
1) is 见面 like 说话 whereby you can place an infix to split it up? Is it because they are both 'verb noun' verbs? Similar to how we've seen 说的话 we see 一次.
2) When the infix is there, is the 面 still 5th tone? or does it go back to 3rd tone?

我们明天下午要见一面,你也来吧!

What does the 一 do here?

Thank you!

REPLY

Mandarin Blueprint

我们明天下午要见三面 is also a grammatically correct sentence, so as you can see the 一 (or 三) are indicating the number of times you'll see each other. BTW, it's rare that someone would say 见三面, but it's an excellent example to illustrate the difference.

So it's like the 次 gets dropped?

Thanks for answering all our questions so quickly.

REPLY

Mandarin Blueprint

You don't have to drop it, if I say 见一次面 that's fine, but the 道理 to take from this sentence is that you *can* drop 次, not necessarily that you *should*.

每周 zhōu - every week. Did you guys mean to leave out měi in your example here?

Mandarin Blueprint

We didn't put the Pinyin because you already learned 每, so you already know the correct pronunciation. No need for a crutch when your leg is not broken!
