So am I right in thinking that the 某个 is fairly extraneous to the sentence meaning?
某个地方 is like saying 'some place'?Mandarin Blueprint
Not exactly, by saying "某个," the speaker is indicating that while they can't remember exactly where, but it's at least *some* place.

Following on from the example sentences and above thread, is 某个地方 used when the some place is ambiguous whereas 某个 (noun) - 比如某个公园或某个银行 - is used when the some place is a certain place?
