I'm rather struggling with this one;
我今天救了两只腿受伤的狗。
The grammar in this just seems so alien..not to re-invent 中文语法, but wouldn't;
我今天救了两只的狗腿受伤make more sense for all involved!?Mandarin Blueprint
Hey Alex, great question, let's break it down:
我·救·狗
Here is your basic sentence. I'm betting the adding "今天“ and "了" isn't confusing, so let's add those in:
我·今天·救了·狗。
Everything else is simply modifying 狗. How many dogs?
我·今天·救了·两只狗。
OK, so it was two dogs, but do they have any other characteristics?
我·今天·救了·两只·腿受伤的·狗。
Ah, they are two dogs with wounded legs! No wonder you saved them ;-)Alex Sumray
Ah, fab.
Thanks very much your breakdown, most helpful (as ever!).MB Team

Sort of related to Alex's question. I often see alternative word orders with descriptors and measure words. In this sentence we have (number) + measure word + descriptor + noun (两只腿受伤的狗). In other cases I'm sure I've come across descriptor + (number) + measure word + noun which in this case would be 腿受伤的两只狗. So am I imagining things or are both structures possible and if so is there a difference in emphasis? Thanks.
Mandarin Blueprint
Yes, both structures are OK. My 语法感 tells me that the first one is emphasizing that it was *two* dogs whereas the other is emphasizing the injured legs. This definitely falls into the category of "interesting linguistic analysis," but knowing this type of subtle difference is highly unlikely to be relevant to your output.

Thanks for the explanation.

I am somewhat confused. You have added 47 "in context", with new characters, and no pronounciation guides, are these on the Anki decks for Level 27?? Sometimes the characters are related, but other times, what is the reason there are som many "in context"... I think in an earlier statement you said that we only need to learn for now characters which have an 80% frequency, so does that mean that all 47 of these "in context" are NOT important to learn or retain???
Mandarin Blueprint
Hey John, I think there's some confusion here because I'm having trouble understanding what you mean. The first half of each level is based around The Hanzi Movie Method and Living Link vocab learning. The second half of the level is those same characters and words "in the context" of sentences. They're all important to retain, so I'm not sure why you are under the impression that they are "not important to learn or retain." They're the very words and characters learned earlier in the level.
John McCann
Oh, ok, I was confused. Yes, you are right. Thanks for following up.
