What function does 放 have in this sentence I found:
新闻里在放日本地震的最新情况。which was translated as
The news is reporting the newest developments with the Japanese earthquake.
In English we would often use "about" or "referring to" in this sort of sentence. Somehow 在放 are conveying that.
Mandarin Blueprint
Interesting, I've never seen news reporting expressed in this way. Where did you find the sentence? Usually, they'll say "报道" for this type of thing.
