A: 我的女朋友太能吃了，每天都比我吃得多得多。

B: 女朋友能吃不好吗？能吃的话，身体就好！我女朋友就吃得少，所以身体不太好。

A: 可是她太能吃了！我担心她吃出问题。

B: 她到底有多能吃？

A: 早上她吃十个面包还不够，还要吃三碗面条。

B: 天啊，吃这么多！吓死我了。

A: 对！还有，除了早上吃的那些以外，每天桌子上的饭有多少她就吃多少。

B: 她每天吃完了会吐吗？

A: 不会吐。而且她吃这么多也不长胖。她吃的那些东西都不知道去哪儿了，让我担心死了。

So, in the construction...
除了早上吃的那些以外
...it seems like the 除了 and the 以外 are working in conjunction. The 除了 is setting up the idea that we are excluding some things (some food) from a group, the group is 早上吃(的)(stuff my girlfriend eats in the morning), and 那些以外 makes it clear that the ones we are excepting are those food items that are beyond (in addition to) this group.
Do 除了 and 以外 often work like this? For example, if I wanted to talk about a group of people, but not the tall ones in the group, would it be correct to say...
除了高个子的人以外
or do I just say
除了高个子的人
?
