Instructions

In the previous topic, you added a 140CRP31200 module to the local rack in a Control Expert project. The 140CRP31200 remote I/O head module supports communication with an Ethernet remote I/O rack.

When you insert a 140CRP31200 module in the local rack, Control Expert automatically creates an EIO Bus , which has the same capabilities as an existing S908 legacy remote I/O bus.

In the EIO Bus , you can select a Quantum drop or an Modicon X80 drop.

Within an Modicon X80 drop, the BMXCRA31200 adapter module is inserted by default. This module supports only standard digital and analog modules. Insert a BMXCRA31210 module from the Drop end communicator field if you require more functionality, such as the following:

NOTE: If you use a low-end CPU (140 CPU 6• 1••) (2 Mb or less), you can only install a maximum of 31 remote I/O drops. Of those 31 drops, you can only install a maximum of sixteen BMXCRA312•0 remote I/O drops. If you use a high-end CPU (140 CPU 6•• ••) (4 Mb or more), you can install a maximum of thirty-one BMXCRA312•0 or 140CRA31200 remote I/O drops.

Use these instructions to configure a remote rack ( EIO Bus) that includes a 140CRA31200 or BMXCRA312•0 adapter module in slot 1:

1

In the Project Browser, double-click EIO Bus to see the (empty) drop.

(Tools > Project Browser > Structural view > Project > Configuration > EIO Bus)

2

In the EIO Bus window, double-click the square link connector to access the available racks.

The New Device window appears.

3

Select a rack for a Quantum Ethernet I/O drop or a Modicon X80 Ethernet I/O drop.

NOTE: If you select a Modicon X80 drop, also choose a BMXCRA31200 or BMXCRA31210 adapter module in the Drop end communicator field of the New Device window.

This example uses the 4-slot 140 XBP 004 00 rack: New Device > Part Number > EIO Quantum Drop > Rack > 140 XBP 004 00. Select the device and press OK.

4

Double-click any empty slot to add modules to the EIO Bus .

For this example, this step is optional.

5

Save the file.

Click File > Save.

The Control Expert configuration now includes the remote rack window (EIO Bus ). Because the Ethernet remote I/O drop requires a module for communication with the local rack, Control Expert automatically adds an adapter module in slot 1.

Rack Parameters

The adapter module is now installed as the communications adapter module of your Ethernet remote I/O drop. Double-click the adapter to see its configuration tabs:

Rack Considerations

Remember these points:

  • You can insert 2 racks on a Modicon X80 Ethernet remote I/O drop with a BMXCRA31210. You can only insert 1 rack with a 140CRA31200 module.

  • Control Expert automatically inserts BMXCRA312•0 adapter modules in slot 0. You cannot delete or move these modules.

  • The number of the first slot in a Quantum rack is 1. The number of the first slot in a Modicon X80 rack is 0. Therefore, a 4-slot Quantum rack includes slot numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and a 4-slot Modicon X80 rack includes slot numbers 0, 1, 2, 3.

  • You can cut or copy other devices in the remote drop and paste them in any rack of the same type. You can perform these actions (cut, copy, paste) only in the same device editor. You cannot move objects from the local rack to the drop or vice-versa.
