Lesson 3 of 3

Vocab Unlocked from 收: 收到 - 收入

Congratulations!
New Word(s) of Two-Characters or More Unlocked!

The word(s) below have a corresponding flashcard in the Hanzi & Words deck associated with this level. Before you end today's study session, add an image to the card (how to add images to flashcards). After that, unsuspend the card(s).

收到

Usage 1 - " receive, get, achieve, obtain"

Living Link Suggestion(s):

  • Just because you're "receiving" signal, doesn't mean the message has arrived. Only after it's reached you have you RECEIVED it.
  • Image search of Walkie-Talkies, because if you "Copy" (aka, I successfully RECEIVED your message), you'd say "收到" in Chinese.

收入

Usage 1 - "income"

Living Link Suggestion(s):

  • When you receive your money and it enters your bank account, it becomes INCOME.
  • A good showroom (shōurù) can generate a lot of INCOME.

does 收到 differ much from 得到?

Mandarin Blueprint

It's a subtle difference, much like the difference between "get" and "receive" in English. For example, you don't really "get" a phone call, you receive it. Sometimes you can either "receive" or "get" things, but then sometimes "get" feels more like the right term. As usual, our recommendation is to let these definitions serve more as guidelines than hard and fast rules, because deeper understanding of these words and the context in which you use them requires a great deal of input, and trust us, you'll see 得到 and 收到 all the time in your reading and listening.
