Lesson 2 of 2

Pick a Prop 乃

Pick a prop to represent

This looks like either a letter “B” or a fist, so perhaps a prop something to do with either one. We’ll go with a Boxing Glove.

Making several hundred 汉字 movies has brought back a long forgotten capacity that I once had as a small child. I remember that when I was about 5 years old, I could get into a cardboard box, or an old kitchen chair flipped on its side, and it would become a road grader. It didn't matter at all that the prop objects I used looked nothing at all like the objects I imagined them to be; what happened was that IN MY MIND'S eye, they really did look like a road grader. THAT capacity seems to have returned.

What's been happening of late is that I can now use pretty much anything I like as a prop, and it will stick. I'll use the prop on this page as an example. I decided to go with a car crusher for my prop. I looked up photos of car crushers, and find that they don't really resemble the B shape of the character.

I went with a car crusher anyway though (I find that I seem to have a penchant for machine oriented props for the most part) it looks very different. It seems that I've reached a point where, once I run the prop through my head once or twice, it just sticks. LOVE IT!

I've been able to use several personal heroes as props as well, although they don't even remotely resemble the components they represent.

It makes me feel like I want to try my hand at writing a sci-fi or fantasy novel.

Since 乃 kinda looks like 刀 but with a kink, I'm going with Cloud Strife's iconic sword from the game Final Fantasy VII as that was a giant blade with a couple of holes at the base.
