I see that since 亥 is the 12th year in the Chinese zodiac, the sign of the hog, Heisig chose acorn for 亥, b/c acorns are eaten by wild pigs and 亥 can be thought as vaguely resembling an acorn (including the little stem on top). And I see that the characters using 亥 as a component don't have anything to do with 12 or dozen, so I guess acorn would be just as useful as a prop? (I already have it as such from my past Japanese study).

I don't remember much about the party the night before, but as I come out of my bedroom of my tiny studio apartment, I find a dozen strangers passed out in the living room. There's a soft knock at the door. I look through the peephole “我的天哪，是韩·索罗！” I open the door and there is Harrison Ford wearing a top hat and carrying a dozen little Styrofoam boxes and a funny looking umbrella. He says "I've got a bad feeling about this." and helps himself inside and goes straight to the kitchen. He reeks of rum and coconut.
