Pick a Prop 古

Pick a prop to represent 

When used in other characters, it needs to be more concrete than “Ancient”, so change it to something you associate with Ancient. Perhaps a giant Pyramid of Giza, The Sphinx, a mummy, or the Cryptkeeper.

I love the sound of the guzheng which conveniently has the 古 in it (古筝). Reading about its history, it is ancient and of course has developed over time like all musical instruments.

Sure! As long as you can make a clear association between the prop and the component then it's fine, and scarab beetles can indeed be easily connected to "ancient."
