And in the Chinese TV shows I watch, the characters often say "晚安 Wǎn ān to each other. Google Translate says this is "Good night" but maybe it's closer to "Easy night," or "Safe night?"

It's indeed "good night," but specifically when you are saying goodbye for the night. If you are merely greeting someone "good evening," you'll say 晚上好, but if you're, say, about to go to bed, you'll say 晚安.

The image I used for this word is of a runner in baseball being called safe at a base. You can say that made him feel AT LEAST COMPLETELY.

If you remember the song "Safety Dance", go look up the cover for the single. For me, these two characters are now the two people dancing on the cover, and since the characters look like people wearing hats, it ties to the group's name (in reverse, but still...). May be a stretch for others, but since audio/music works well for my scenes and this popped right into my head, it's staying.
