Initiating a Ping Request
To test the routing information between two devices with a Ping request:

Select the address of the station to be interrogated with the help of the Addresses field.

Select the number of bytes to be transmitted using the Size field. This specifies the length of the message to be sent between 64 and 1472 bytes.

Press the button Ping.
Result: The reply appears in the field Time.
The time returned corresponds to the turnaround time for the message in ms.
Responses
The following table groups together the different types of response to the Ping request:
If the response is…

positive
The window indicates the turnaround time for the message in ms.
negative
  • A window with the message Timeout specifies the absence of response from the remote device.
  • A window with the message Host unreachable specifies that the remote device has not been reached in the network architecture.
