Connecting the Module
NOTICE
INOPERABLE EQUIPMENT
  • Stop the CPU.
  • Verify that the 140 NOE 771 •1 module is free from TCP traffic.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.
To establish a connection between the PC and the module, and select the download function proceed as follows:

Disable the antivirus and firewall of your computer and enable them again once the module is updated.

Stop the CPU manually or through Control Expert.

Click Start → Programs → EcoStruxure Control Expert → OS Loader to launch OS Loader.
Result: The Welcome window is displayed.

Click Next.
Result: The Communication Protocol window is displayed.

Select the FTP communication driver and click Next.
Result: The Target window is displayed (the information displayed in the following example are for illustration purpose only):

In the Device Type dialog box, select Direct device.

In the Target Address dialog box, type the device IP address.

Click Connect to connect the PC to the module.

If requested, type the MAC address that is written in front of the module.
NOTE:
If your module is located remotely, you can get the MAC address by
  1. Pinging the module IP address.
  2. Using the arp -a command to display the physical MAC address of the module.

In the Devices dialog box, select the module node.

Click Properties if you need to display the firmware version.

Click Next.
Result: The Operation window is displayed.
Selecting and Downloading the Firmware File
Do not interrupt the communication between the PC and the module while downloading a file because it can cause irreparable damage to the module.
NOTICE
EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
During the download:
  • Do not power OFF the module.
  • Do not power OFF the PC.
  • Do not shut down OS Loader.
  • Do not disconnect the communication cable.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in equipment damage.
After connecting the module, proceed as follows to select and download the firmware file:

Select Download OS to device and click Browse.

Click Next.
Result: The File and Device Info window displays information on the firmware file to download and the device connected:
Check the PC binary file version. The compatibility with the 140 NOE 771 •1 module firmware is indicated as follows: PC file is compatible with the module firmware: It is indicated by a green tick between the File and Device dialog box. The transfer is allowed. PC file version is lower than the module firmware version: It is indicated by a yellow tick between the File and Device dialog box. The transfer is allowed but it downgrades the module to an earlier version. PC file is not compatible with the module firmware: It is indicated by a red tick between the File and Device dialog box and the Next button is grayed. The transfer is not allowed. Solve the incompatibility before proceeding with the next step.

Click Next.
Result: The Summary window is displayed.

Click Download.
Result: A popup window is displayed.

Click Yes to validate the information displayed and launch the transfer.
Result: The Progress window is displayed with the remaining time. The duration depends on the protocol used and the PC configuration.

In the Progress window, check if the download is completed.
Result: The SUCCESS message is displayed.
NOTE: If the SUCCESS message is not displayed, check each step and contact your local Schneider Electric office for assistance.

Click Close and exit OS Loader.
Checking the Firmware Version
To check the new kernel and exec version of the 140 NOE 771 •1 module, open the module Ethernet port webpages or proceed as follows:

Open OS Loader.
Result: The Welcome window is displayed.

Click Next.
Result: The Communication Protocol window is displayed.

Select the FTP communication driver and click Next.
Result: The Target window is displayed.

In the Device Type dialog box, select Direct device.

In the Target Address dialog box, type the device IP address.

Click Connect to connect the PC to the module.

If requested, type the MAC address of the module that is written in front of the 140 NOE 771 •1.
NOTE: If your module is located remotely, you can get the MAC address by pinging the module IP address, then using the arp -a command to display the physical MAC address of the module.

In the Devices dialog box, select the Ethernet port node updated.

In the Devices dialog box, click Properties to check the firmware version.

Click Close and exit OS Loader.
